The value added of Beijing’s high-tech industries stood at 697.6 billion yuan (100 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent according to a press conference held on May 22, 2019.
Beijing’s high-grade, precise and advanced industries have driven its economic growth and yielded a batch of major technological innovation achievements in recent years.
Liu Hui, from the city’s science and technology commission, said Beijing accelerated the construction of economic structure dominated by high-grade, precision and advanced industries at the end of 2017, which contained ten industries, including medicine & health and Artificial Intelligence among others.
Data show, the operation revenue of all Beijing’s enterprises in medicine & health industry reached 186.7 billion yuan in 2018, up 14.3 percent year on year.
Now, the city has 20 pharmaceutical enterprises, whose annual operation revenue exceeds one billion yuan and total value of out-put is more than 60 billion yuan.
Beijing PINS Medical Co., Ltd., one of the enterprises in medicine & health industry, has developed a series of brain pacemaker products for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other neurological diseases, breaking the monopoly of foreign products. The products have been applied in the countries along the Belt and Road routes.
Beijing’s Artificial Intelligence industry also keeps a rapid development trend.
According to incomplete statistics, the scale of Beijing’s AI related industries amounted to 150 billion yuan in 2018.
So far, the city has made breakthroughs in AI chip and system’s R&D, computer vision and other core technologies’ research.
Some technologies and achievements boast world-class, with the number of patents exceeding 25,000.
